Community Mobilization and Orientation

The objective of this activity is to create awareness among community members, children and also caretakers about the organization and the project. To educate them about the importance of computers/learning station in the lives of their children which will make their future bright?

This activity covered in all the learning stations with the target audiences. In this activity we conducted different activities with different target audiences – Children – Ice Breaking Game, Focus Group Discussion, Tablet Testing, Orientation, and Interview; Stakeholders – Focus Group Discussion and Interview; Caretaker – Demonstration of the Learning Station. The purpose of conducting these activities with different audience are to gain their attention span, raise their knowledge about computers, to know the benefits of the computer how much it is effective and many more. Along with this, the NIIT Foundation representative discussed with the community members on the “Hole-in-the-wall” concept, Minimally Invasive pedagogy, approach and technology used, as well as the overall learning and outcome of the project. A focus group discussion with the learning community (children) was also undertaken to re-orient them on utilization of Hole-in-the-wall Learning Station and to share experiences from our earlier projects.

The aim is to “attract” the communities towards the Hole-in-the-wall Learning Station, “retain and engage” them in the learning experiences and “motivate” the existing users to attract new users to the Learning Station. The following objectives were accomplished through the community mobilization to ensure that the efforts in the field are sustained, make the community accept and adopt the Hole-in-the-Wall Learning Station as their “OWN” and “NOT” merely as a limited facility provided by an external agency, and ensure that the Learning Station is utilized by the communities the way it should be.

It was heartening to see the high spirits and enthusiasm among children and the community members on being oriented about unrestricted opportunity to access Hole-in-the-Wall Learning stations. The children were excited about using computers pre-loaded with varied edutainment games, stories, activity based exercises etc. We also tested children knowledge through tablet and also notice their passionate towards using on the tablet.
